We have a self-contained prototyping department employing highly skilled staff, with their own dedicated equipment and workshop area. This gives us the capability to produce complex prototypes for clients both quickly and accurately, easing the prototype development significantly by not needing to share equipment in the main production area.

The staff can take a concept and make it function, collaborating with our customers to achieve the desired product. From an idea, sketch, sample, or fully designed cad file we can make it work.

They have all the company’s facilities at their disposal including lasering, folding and welding, the prototypes are then powder coated in either one of our many stock powders or we can request samples of others.

Our customers are always pleased with this prototyping service, our turnaround is excellent and we often pull prototypes out of the bag with a very fast turnaround.

The laser cuts such high-quality burr-free edges the lasered parts are immediately ready for further processing. It is capable of lasering up to 20mm mild steel sheet and 12mm stainless steel, as well as most other sheet metal. This gives us enormous flexibility with both products and for us to make jigs which are required to make sure all items are produced consistently.

Equipment

Our Cutting equipment includes:-

• Laser Cutting Bystronic BySmart 3015 6kW Fibre Laser (Sheet size 3000 x 1500 x 20mm).
• Tube lasering capability.
• Saw VEM 315mm Circular cut-off saw.

Our state of the art press brakes are used to form most components, alongside rollers. We also make custom tools to create bespoke designs to meet our customers’ requirements. The accuracy of folds and forming is second to none and is complimented by the creativity of the tool making.

Equipment

Our forming equipment includes rollers and pressbrakes, we have a:-

• 2 Safan Darley E 100T-3100MM 3m pressbrakes.
• Roller – 75mm diameter x 1m
• Roller – 125mm diameter x 2m

The fabrication department is equipped with modern welding equipment enabling us to manufacture your components utilising MIG, TIG and Spot welding techniques.

On larger quantities or complex assemblies, we make jigs, using the laser and other materials to ensure accuracy and consistency. We have a team of fabricators who have their own workstations and tools. Usually 1 or 2 staff will produce all of a run higher quantity parts in order to ensure quality and their expertise on that item.

We can do any quantity of parts, from one offs to thousands, assembling many components into 1 product and/or creating flat pack systems to enable lower shipping costs or reducing component weight for our customers.

Saiston Sheet Metal Ltd., has considerable expertise and experience in the powder coating business. Having modern in-house facilities is the starting point, but our excellent staff and quality control processes ensure that our powder coating sets the industry standard for quality and consistency of finish. With a huge range of colours and textures stocked and with colour matching facilities available, we can provide all finishes our clients require. We use a state of the art fully conveyorised Powder Coating system, incorporating online 3 stage degreasing and Iron Phosphate pre-treatment. This is capable of turning around large quantities of work in a very short time and the pre-treatment gives a clean and receptive surface imperative for excellent paint finish.

At Saiston Sheet Metal we pack our products intelligently, using a wide variety of different methods to protect them. We have dedicated clean area set aside to be able to deal with your assembly work should it be required prior to despatch. We will follow specific clients’ requirements, or we can help design customised solutions for projects needing special treatment, such as those being delivered direct to site.

We can fit fixings both before or after paint (including nutserts, hankbushes and pemserts etc) and use a variety of techniques to ensure any threads are kept free of powder to retain their integrity.

We can also offer a fitting or collation service of free issue components, so your products are complete and could be delivered straight into a warehouse or, potentially, straight to your client.

We have previously had a screen printer come in to print directly onto the powder coated units and can rivet assemblies together after powder coating to give a wider range of colour and construction options, potentially adding to the impact of the product.
